Thanks to all who have participated in our Route 66 activities!
Friday’s Question and Answer
Q: Where are currently two brown Historis Route 66 markers - one saying BEGIN, and the other stating END within 1 block of each other?
A: In Chicago, both Adams St. and Jackson Blvd. are historic Route 66 alignments.
Ride along with boomers, Michael DeShane and Steven Vick, as they travel the length of Route 66 raising money for charity in “1 Big Red” a 1973 Red Cadillac convertible (think Boss Hogg of the Dukes of Hazard).
Winding from Chicago, downward to St Louis, MO, making their way to Oklahoma City, across the TX panhandle to Amarillo, on through the flatlands of Albuquerque, steaming in the heat of Needles, and finally to la la land itself, Los Angeles . From June 1 – June 8 they will travel from Chicago to Amarillo. The 2nd leg begins July 5th in Amarillo and ends July 12 in Los Angeles. Blogging from the road, they will keep you guessing how many miles they drive, what points of interest they visit, how many root beers they drink, where they spend the night, what tunes are playing on the 8 track, and of course, what new friends they meet along the way.
Along with having a good time, Michael and Steven are donating the car to the Jessie F. Richardson Foundation (JFR). JFR is a registered charitable 501 (c)3 organization, working with indigent elders in the United States and abroad. The sale of the car will raise $15,000 for indigent elder care in Nicaragua, the 2nd poorest country in the western hemisphere.
Here is what their $15,000 will provide:
· Food, shelter and care for 25 homeless elders for one year
· Physician services to 75 elders for one year
· Training for 100 healthcare professionals (doctors & nurses)
